What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is used for more complex procedures and for patents who tend to get nervous during dental treatments. After a quick consultation, we will schedule your sedation dentistry appointment. You will be administered a small pill which will allow you to simply snooze through your appointment. Most patients will have very little or sometimes even no memory of the visit, not even smells or sounds! Throughout the entire appointment you will be closely monitored by our specially trained team of dental professionals.
Am I a Good Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is most useful for our patients who:
- Have high anxiety about dental visits
- Simply do not have the time for multiple visits
- Hate the noises and/or smells associated with dental care
- Have sensitive teeth
- Are afraid of needles
- Have TMJ troubles and cannot open their mouth for extended periods
- Have a strong gag reflex
- Have difficulty getting numb
- Have had traumatic dental experiences in the past
Sedation dentistry is only for our adult patients. Dr. Winegar will arrange a consultation initially to answer any questions and also check for any medical reasons you may not be suitable for sedation dentistry.
What to Expect at a Sedation Dentistry Appointment.
About one hour before arriving at our office, you will take a small pill. You will not be able to drive to our office so you will need to have a companion take you. You will feel extremely drowsy by the time you arrive at our office.
Our staff will take you to one of our comfortable dental chairs and a small sensor will be attached to your finger. During the treatment, this sensor will allow our team to monitor your vital signs. Once you a dozing comfortably, Dr. Winegar will begin the procedure. Once finished, Dr. Winegar will wake you and allow your companion to take you home. It is very likely that you will not even remember being at our office once you have recovered!
