What are Composite Fillings?
Traditionally, fillings have been very easy to spot, but with recent advances in technology and materials, you now have the option to go with a more natural appearing alternative – a tooth colored or composite filling. The resin used in composite fillings is tooth colored and filled with a form of glass. As this type of resin is not quite as tough as the traditional silver or metal fillings, composite fillings were only used for front teeth. However, thanks to modern dentistry improvements now you can have composite fillings in any of your teeth. Because of their color and texture they are not noticeable, so nobody will know you have fillings unless you choose to tell them!
How are Composite Fillings Installed?
The composite filling procedure can be completed in just one visit to our office. To begin, we will apply an anesthetic to sedate the teeth and gums of the patient. Your dentist will then carefully remove all decay and replace it with a form fitted filling. To finish, your dentist will check the shape of the filling, assess the bite and ask the patient how the new appliance feels. At this point, if any changes or adjustments need to be made, we will do it there and then in almost all cases.
